Titchwell is a very small coastal village to the west of . . .

Spire and cross.

. . . Brancaster. Its marsh is an R.S.P.B. bird reserve, with a visitors' centre just off the coast road. Local chalk was used to build the cottages.

Its pretty church is St. Mary's, with a round tower topped by a sturdy cross on a small lead spire. The main part of the tower was built before 1066, with the belfry added later. The original Saxon church was quite narrow, the same width of the chancel today. The nave was widened later. The font is Norman and spent some time as a water trough in a nearby field, before being rescued.
