Thornage

Thornage

Thornage stands on the western side of the Glaven valley, two-and-one-half miles southeast of Holt. The village is spread along the B1110, and contains many houses and cottages of real character. On the west side of the village is a large green. Thornage links to its neighbouring villages via some very pretty, quiet and narrow country lanes.

The Church of All Saints' has an early 14th century chancel. There are three Norman windows in the nave and the chancel, one is blocked up. Otherwise there was much renewal work in 1898 and1904.

Elsewhere, a gatepost (above) bears the legend "In man's lifetime, the road to death has many paths. Often monuments of great skill are lost. However, moreover, immutable constructions of geometry and true science will endure." (Thanks to Jess for the translation).
