The small coastal village of Morston is popular with yachtsmen and birdwatchers alike. Situated to the west of Blakeney, its beautiful saltmarsh, owned by the National Trust, comes alive each spring when the small-boat sailors come out of their winter hibernation. The footpaths are busy with walkers and birders alike, as the creakes fill and empty with each tide.
Morston quay is also the departure point for boat trips to see the seals basking on the sandbanks off Blakeney Point - a 'must do' for every visitor to North Norfolk. The well-proportioned church, All Saints', is a familiar landmark on this part of the coast. Much of the church is 13th century, including the tower, although after a lightning strike in 1743 this was patched up with brick. A. Haig |
