Docking is an attractive village with some fine old houses . . .

. . . situated five miles east of the Wash and the same distance south of Brancaster. The church, St. Mary's is a spacious 14th century building with a tower of 1415. It was extensively altered in Victorian times, however. The Roman Catholic martyr, Saint Henry Walpole, was born in Docking in 1558 and baptized in St. Mary's.

The pond at Docking

Docking Hall, south of the church, was originally Elizabethan but was rebuilt in 1858. It has belonged to the Hare family since the 17th century. One mile west on the road to Heacham, stands Burntstalk, a former workhouse built in 1835-6 in the late classical style of brick. Rendered and painted, it has been converted for housing.
