Burnham Market & Burnham Westgate
There are seven Burnham parishes all clustered together 4 miles or so west of Wells-next-the-Sea. Burnhams Westgate, Sutton and Ulph are absorbed together in Burnham Market, which is now thriving as a centre for its wide range of shops and other businesses.
Westgate church, St. Mary the Virgin, stands at the west end of the wide Market Place. It has a 13th century tower that was revamped in the 15th century. In the mid-18th century the tower was in a ruinous condition and a buttress was errected, then a second was added in 1876. H.Hancock |
