Briningham - 2
|
|
Briningham stands just below the highest point of Norfolk, yet it is sheltered by the fold and curve of land and has it's own micro-climate, as do many of the villages in North Norfolk. When it snows in Briningham it might well be sunny all around it, yet the winds travel high and the sunsets are magnificent. There are times in the summer when you can smell the sea, but no sea fret reaches this far inland. On one day in August 2004, a temperature of 42° was recorded, while elsewhere it was cool and cloudy. S.R. Briningham church has a 14th century window in th south wall of the nave. In the graveyard there stands a ten-foot-high pyramidal memorial to members of the Brermer family, on top of which sits the head of a muzzled bear. Briningham House is late-Georgian and set in parkland (top) with many mature trees. |
