A popular coastal village with yachtsmen, yet it was once a thriving port. It was the last working port on the Glaven estuary, the coasting trade was maintained until the early years of the 20th century. The quay is approached by narrow roads, lined with flint cottages, that run down from the coast road. From the quay, there is an impressive view of the marsh.Summer brings the small-boat sailors who throng the marsh beside the creek. The parish church, St. Nicholas', is imposing with a tall 124ft. west tower, a landmark visible from several miles along the coast, both east and west. At the other end of the church is an odd beacon tower. It's thought it might once have been used as a lighthouse to guide ships into the harbour. A.Haig
